The errand boy is Japan and Hitler is the boss. Japan "did well" on their first assignment given by Hitler, by bombing the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. This is what brought America into WWll. By the statement saying "did they squirm much?", is asking how did the U.S. react to the attack on Pearl Harbor, and did they know it was coming.
